The most popular method in the world for testing the hardness of metals using a portable hardness tester is the Leeb method (ASTM A956). The so-called dynamic method for determining hardness is widespread due to its ease of use. The user does not need to have special skills and or knowledge in the field of hardness measurement, to carry out the measurement, it is necessary to charge up the impact body of the device’s probe, install the probe on the tested surface, press the release button of the probe and the hardness value will be displayed on the device screen.

This method is recommended for large products, weighing from 5 kg and a thickness of 10 mm and more, however, observing certain requirements for fixing the product, it is possible to measure also small parts.

Pulse Holiday Detector NOVOTEST SPARK-1 is a device for detecting defects (thinning, microholes, cracks, etc.) in dielectric coatings on metals.
The principle of operation of the device is based on the electrospark method. A probe with electrode connected to one pole of the voltage source scans the surface of the tested object directly along the coating. The second pole of the voltage source from the ground connector is connected directly to the metal structure. Film applicator AU-1 is designed for applying layers of paint and other materials of required thickness of the layer during the complex tests according to ASTM D 823-E.

User can set the height of the gap by micrometer heads at the range of 10-6000 µm. The height of the gap should provide the necessary thickness of the layer of paint film. The applicator is to be placed on the edge of the test plate, than pour necessary amount of tested material  in front of the gap and move the applicator along the plate at constant speed of 5-10 cm/s, dispensing  continuous layer of the tested material on the plate.

Viscosity Dip Mug NOVOTEST VMS is used to determine the convectional viscosity of the dispersion polyvinyl-acetate homopolymers coarse dispersion.

 

The device is a cylindrical brass vessel with a handle and three orifices, two of them are located at the lateral wall of the cylinder (by manual – lateral orifices), and the third – at the centre of the base (base orifice).

 

Conventional viscosity using the standard viscosity mug is to be determined at (20 ± 2) ° C. The dispersion need to be thoroughly mixed, and poured a full mug. Than lift it and watch the level of the dispersion. When the dispersion level in the viscosity mug decreases and opens the upper lateral orifice – start the stopwatch. The stopwatch is to be stopped at that moment when the dispersion comes to the level of the lower lateral orifice. The viscosity index is definite by the time (in seconds) that takes the dispersion to lower the level  from the upper lateral orifice to the lower lateral orifice. The result of the testing is the average value of three parallel testing (the discrepancy between of them should not exceed 10%).

Coating Thickness Knife Tester NOVOTEST  TPN-1 (Paint Inspection Gauge) is designed to measure the thickness of both single and multiple layer coatings on any grounds, both metallic and non-metallic. The operation principle is based on the local cut (notch) of the coating at the tested place of object with following thickness measurement of this coating. The thickness of coating is determined by the width of notch, it is possible because of the special form of cutter of the instrument. The measurement is performed by any portable measuring microscope with a suitable measuring range and discreteness.
